Frequently asked questions
How does this work?
Drivers with traffic tickets come to us because they trust the reputation we’ve built. When a client chooses to contest a ticket, our platform intelligently matches the ticket with an attorney based on a number of factors, including:
- Attorney Success Rate
- Legal Fee
- Response Rate, and
- Customer Service Rating
If a client is matched to you, you’ll have one business day to review and accept or decline the case. If you accept the case, your full legal fee will be transferred to you and you can start the legal work right away.
How much does it cost?
We charge you a marketing fee whenever you accept a case. That’s it. There are no registration, subscription or hidden fees. Our marketing fee varies from state to state so fill in the form above and we’ll get back to you with specifics.
We’re willing to bet that our fee will be substantially less than what you’re already paying in marketing costs to attract new clients.
How much business will you send me?
Our top marketplace participants across the country receive upwards of 50 new clients each week. With that said, a number of factors will influence your success, including:
- Your Location
Even though our service is available in most states, we don’t actively market everywhere just yet. We do receive organic and word of mouth users from all over the country, so working with us can only benefit your practice.
- Competition & Legal Fee
We will always do what’s best for the end user. If multiple attorneys are competing in a given county, all with similar success rates and customer service rating, our platform will match the client with the most competitive attorney.
- Your Success Rate
Drivers come to us because they expect the best outcome for their case. In order to maximize successes, we keep track of which attorneys are successful in which courts, and under which circumstances.
- Customer Service Rating
We collect feedback from our users on their experience with the attorney they were matched to. This really comes down to communication. Attorneys that respond promptly to client questions and concerns, and keep their clients up to date on the status of their case, consistently receive high reviews.
All things being equal, our platform is impartial and distributes new cases fairly and evenly.
Who sets the legal fee?
You do. When you setup your account you’ll get to specify exactly which counties and courts you’d like to cover, as well as your fee for each of these courts.
How and when do I get paid?
Your full legal fee will be transferred to you one business day after you accept a case. We use Stripe for payment processing and they charge a transaction fee of 2.9% plus $0.30. This fee is passed on to your law firm and should be in line with what you’re already paying for credit card transactions.
What’s the typical process for a new case?
- First, you’ll get an email notification from us letting you know that you have a pending case
- You login to your Off The Record account to review the case
- You decide whether you want to accept or decline the case
- If you accept the case, you’ll send your new client a message to let them know the process and that you’ll be taking care of them
Can I speak with my potential client before accepting the case?
Absolutely. You’ll be able to message your potential client through the OTR platform (preferred method). You’ll also have access to their phone number and email address.
Are you compliant with the ethical rules lawyers have to abide by?
Yes, we go out of our way to abide by the rules of professional conduct in each state. We’re constantly in contact with the various state bars and, if necessary, we modify how we operate in each state to remain compliant.
If you have any questions on this topic, feel free to contact us.
Do I have to commit to a certain length of time?
No. You can opt out of the OTR marketplace at any time if it’s not benefiting your practice. Simply update your settings on your OTR Attorney Account dashboard.
Can I cancel my account if I decide this isn’t for me?
Yes. You can opt out of the OTR Marketplace at any time through your OTR Attorney Account dashboard. We can also delete your account for you — just send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What do you stand to lose?
Nothing. Worse case scenario is you opt in and you receive no new business. It would have cost you nothing.
Best case scenario? We send you new business each day.
